The Traveling Storyteller
The Murals Arts of Philadelphia commissioned me to design and paint a mural for the Nebinger Elementary Schoolyard. So I thought of a “multi-cultural parade” (previous title) composition with children, within the city’s well known landmarks.
One day, while scouting the location, I met a woman exiting the school who completed the overall concept. I was fascinated by her story of how she visited many schools, entertaining classrooms with her fantastical stories dressed in what looked like multi-cultural fashion. I later titled the mural “The Traveling Storyteller”, in which all of these things happening around her are part of our experience. So I immediately asked if she’d be interested in being in the mural and she happily agreed. The dancing children figures were then chosen from students who attended the school itself.

*(In the studio-work in progress) Because of the size and time constraint, I choose to paint it with a simplistic graphic approach.
